In the spirit of WIA’s upcoming “Race and Gender Equity Program”, we are highlighting the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts of our 4 Premier Partners during the month of May. Today we are highlighting Ball Aerospace.
Ball Aerospace is committed to a culture of inclusion and belonging that invites people to fully invest in the work they do and feel part of the team – bringing greater ideas, innovation and energy to Ball, which is why we have a dedicated Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) organization that reports directly to our Aerospace President. “My vision is for Ball to become the “north star” in the Aerospace & Defense industry for DEI best practices”, says Bobby Wilkinson, Sr. Director, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

We are working to foster a more inclusive and equitable environment, further broaden our hiring pools, and reinforce our commitment to supporting, developing and providing the training necessary to create rewarding career paths for all team members, regardless of race, gender, religion or sexual orientation both internally and externally. Our training programs such as Unconscious Bias and Think Inclusive are essential to understanding and combatting everyday microaggressions and biases that are embedded in our minds based on the exposures and experiences we encountered throughout our lives.
Ball has 10 employee resource groups known as Ball Networks (BNs). Our BN members participate in a number activities focused on: career development, company culture, community outreach to help educate and empower individuals. Examples of Networks include the African Diaspora, Pride, and Women’s Network. In addition to our Network Groups, Ball has seven Ball Interest (BI) Groups ranging from Astronomy & Photography to Cycling Interests. BI members participate in a variety of internal and external activities that reflect their passions and concernment both inside and outside of Ball, reflecting our commitment and support to our team members’ passions and innovative ideas. Sponsored by Ball executives, each of the groups are visible, value-added organizations that build and support a diverse and inclusive environment at Ball.

Ball actively partners with community-based organizations that promote science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education in under-resourced communities to amplify the message that DEI cultivates innovation. We’ve also expanded our relationships with professional organizations (National Society of Black Engineers, Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, etc.) to reach more talented individuals.

While we’ve made great amounts of progress with our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts, we are not done and there is still so much more to do. DEI is a journey and we are incredibly excited to improve upon and continue it.
