Rhinebeck, NY, July 24, 2009: Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome announced today that it will hold a “WOMEN FLY WEEKEND” on August 22 and 23 to expand awareness among girls and young women about the fun of flying and the potential for careers in aviation. There will be a reception after the air show starting at about 4:00 PM on both Saturday and Sunday so that girls, young women and parents can discuss aviation opportunities with women pilots and other aviation professionals.
On Sunday, Lynda Meeks, President of Girls With Wings ™ ( will conduct two interactive work shops…one at 10 AM for pre-teens ages 6-11 and a second at 11:30 for ages 12 - 15. Lynda flew in the military and is a professional pilot having flown everything from helicopters to the Citation X. “Our ultimate goal is to increase self confidence in young girls by encouraging them to realize their full potential through opportunities in aviation,” Lynda explained.
“We are excited about this program so in order to encourage girls and young women to take advantage of this enriching experience, girls, 6 through 17 years of age will be admitted to the air shows on Women Fly Weekend for $5.
